Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 13, 2026

Duckin' Great Deals ("we," "us," "the site") is a deal-sharing and personal essay site run by Shannon at duckingreatdeals.com. This policy explains what information the site collects when you visit, what we don't collect, how affiliate links work, and how to reach us with questions.

By using this site, you agree to the practices described here. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

What we collect

We keep this as minimal as we can. Here's everything the site gathers:

Anonymous click counts

When you click a "Shop" or affiliate button on a post, we increment a simple click counter for that post so Shannon can see which finds people like. This counter is not tied to your name, email, IP address, or any other personal identifier — it's just a number going up.

Admin sign-in

The "Sign In" / "Admin Portal" button is for Shannon (and anyone she's given access to) to manage posts — it isn't a visitor account system. Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication (a Google service), which processes an email and password for that purpose only. If you're a regular visitor, nothing here applies to you.

Standard server logs

Like most websites, our hosting and the third-party services we rely on (described below) may automatically log basic technical information — such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited — for security and reliability purposes. We don't actively review this data for marketing purposes.

What we don't collect

  • No email newsletter or mailing list — there is no email signup anywhere on this site.
  • No contact or comment forms that store your information.
  • No accounts, passwords, or profiles for visitors.
  • No payment or billing information — all purchases happen on the retailer's own site (Amazon, Walmart, Target, Etsy, etc.), not here.
  • We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. We don't have any to sell — see above.

Connected social accounts (Facebook, Pinterest, Substack)

The site shows Shannon's own recent posts from her Duckin' Great Deals Facebook Page, her Pinterest account and her Substack, so visitors can see everything she shares in one place. Here's exactly how that works:

Who connects an account

Only the site owner. Visitors never log in with Facebook, Pinterest or any other account here, and the site never asks visitors for access to their accounts.

What we receive from Facebook

When Shannon connects her Facebook Page through Facebook Login, the site asks for two permissions: pages_show_list (to find her Page) and pages_read_engagement (to read that Page's own posts). Using them, our server reads her Page's name and ID, and for each recent post its text, photo, link and date. We do not read her personal profile, friends, messages or any other Pages' content, and we never post, comment or change anything on Facebook.

What we receive from Pinterest and Substack

From Pinterest (when connected through Pinterest's login), the site reads her account name and her recent pins and boards: titles, descriptions, images and links. From Substack, it reads her publication's public RSS feed. No login is involved there.

How it's stored and used

  • The access keys ("tokens") Facebook and Pinterest issue are stored only on our web server, in a folder that can't be reached from the web, and are used only to fetch Shannon's own posts.
  • A copy of her recent public posts is kept on the server for up to 15 minutes so the site loads quickly, then refreshed. Those posts are already public on her Page and profiles.
  • This data is used only to display her posts on duckingreatdeals.com. It is never sold, shared with advertisers, or used for any other purpose.

Removing it

Disconnecting an account deletes its stored token and cached posts from our server. See Data Deletion Instructions for the steps.

Cookies & similar technology

This site doesn't run advertising trackers or analytics pixels. A few third-party services we use may set their own cookies or local storage to do their job:

  • Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com) — loads the site's custom lettering. Google may log standard request data (like IP address) when fonts are fetched.
  • jsDelivr CDN (cdn.jsdelivr.net) — serves small icon images (social media logos). Same kind of standard request logging may apply.
  • Firebase / Google Cloud (Firestore & Authentication) — powers the deal feed and the admin sign-in. It may use local storage/cookies in your browser to keep the admin signed in between pages; for regular visitors browsing deals, it's used only to load and display posts.
  • Facebook Page Plugin (facebook.com) — on pages that show Shannon's Facebook timeline, the timeline is embedded directly from Facebook. Facebook may set or read its own cookies when it loads, under Meta's Privacy Policy. Blocking third-party cookies or using a tracker blocker hides the embed; you can still visit her Page directly.
  • Post images — photos in Shannon's posts load from the platform they were posted on (Facebook's fbcdn.net, Pinterest's pinimg.com, Substack's substackcdn.com) or from the retailer, which may log standard request data like your IP address.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser's settings at any time. Doing so shouldn't break the core experience of browsing deals, though the admin sign-in requires them to work.

Affiliate links & disclosure

Duckin' Great Deals participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by linking to Amazon.com, and may participate in similar affiliate programs with other retailers (such as Walmart, Target, or Etsy).

As an Amazon Associate, Shannon earns from qualifying purchases. If you click a shopping link on this site and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. Clicking an affiliate link shares a referral code with the retailer so they know the sale came from here; the retailer then handles your purchase, payment, and shipping information under their own privacy policy, not ours.

We only recommend things Shannon has actually looked into — see "The Duck Test" on the homepage for how finds get picked.

Links to other sites

This site links out to Shannon's Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Substack pages, as well as to retailers like Amazon. Once you leave duckingreatdeals.com, that site's own privacy policy applies — we're not responsible for how those sites handle your information.

Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us below and we'll remove it.

Your choices & rights

Because this site doesn't collect personal profiles or sell data, there's very little to manage — but you always have the right to:

  • Ask what information (if any) we hold that's connected to you.
  • Ask us to delete it (see Data Deletion Instructions).
  • Block cookies through your browser at any time.
  • Use an ad blocker or tracker blocker — it won't affect the deals you can see.

Depending on where you live (for example, under the California Consumer Privacy Act or the EU's GDPR), you may have additional formal rights. Reach out using the contact info below and we'll do our best to help, even if those specific laws don't technically apply to a site this size.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the "Effective date" at the top of this page. Significant changes will be noted here directly rather than sent to you individually, since we don't collect email addresses to notify.
